We regularly host seasonal embroidery seminars at Xiu Zhen Ge Embroidery School and at various locations throughout Queensland, promoting the beauty and cultural significance of embroidery. Our seminars also offer visitors the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops, experiencing the artistry and craftsmanship of traditional embroidery firsthand.

Echoes of the Silk Road Across a Thousand Years

On 12 September 2026 at 2:00 pm, the Queensland Embroidery Arts Association (QEAA) proudly presented the Fifth “Intangible Cultural Heritage on the Tip of the Needle” Embroidery Art Exhibition at Queensland Parliament House.

With the theme “Echoes of the Silk Road Across a Thousand Years,” the exhibition used the art of needle and thread as a bridge between tradition and contemporary life, celebrating the beauty of traditional Chinese embroidery within Australia’s rich and multicultural society.

The exhibition featured more than 30 exquisite embroidery artworks, showcasing a diverse range of artistic themes. The collection included works inspired by traditional Chinese culture and heritage, as well as artworks portraying Australia’s unique natural landscapes, wildlife and cultural character.

Among the highlights were three impressive embroidered scrolls created by renowned embroidery artist Jenny Gao: Chinese Australian Life and Culture, Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, and The Fishermen’s Retreat in the Mountain Stream. These large-scale works demonstrated the extraordinary skill, patience and artistic vision behind traditional embroidery.

The diverse works created by QEAA students were also warmly received by visitors. Guests were drawn to the delicate stitching, vibrant colours and individual artistic expressions presented throughout the exhibition.

Every stitch and every strand of thread represents the dedication, creativity and personal stories of the artists. Together, these works reflect the continuing journey of Chinese embroidery — preserving its traditional heritage while allowing it to grow and flourish in Australia.

Connecting Cultures Through Embroidery

With the needle as the brush and the thread as the ink,
every stitch connects the past with the present,
and every strand brings China and Australia closer together.

The exhibition provided an opportunity for the wider community to discover the beauty of Chinese embroidery and to experience the unique cultural value of intangible cultural heritage.

More than an exhibition, the event celebrated heritage, creativity, cultural exchange and friendship. It demonstrated how traditional art can transcend time, distance and cultural boundaries, creating meaningful connections between people and communities.

On 2 August 2026, the Queensland Embroidery Art Association (QEAA) participated in the Empowering People, Strengthening Queensland 2026 International Cultural Showcase and Multicultural Awards Ceremony, held at Brisbane City Hall.

During the event, QEAA proudly showcased a collection of traditional Chinese embroidery works and a wide variety of handcrafted embroidery art pieces. Our display attracted a large number of visitors and embroidery enthusiasts, who stopped to admire the exquisite craftsmanship and learn more about the rich history and cultural significance of Chinese embroidery. The exhibition provided an excellent opportunity to promote Chinese embroidery as an important form of intangible cultural heritage while fostering cultural exchange within Queensland's diverse multicultural community.

Founder and President of the Queensland Embroidery Art Association (QEAA), Jenny Gao, was recently invited as a featured interview guest at the fifth anniversary celebration of "Australia Home 2026 - BRIDGES" . 

During the interview, Jenny reflected on her eleven-year journey since moving to Australia. Guided by her deep passion for and commitment to traditional Chinese embroidery, she has overcome cultural differences and resource challenges to promote this remarkable art form through embroidery classes, exhibitions, cultural exchange programs, and community events.

Through her ongoing efforts, she has helped people from diverse cultural backgrounds gain a deeper appreciation of this centuries-old art form while fostering cross-cultural understanding and strengthening connections between Chinese and Australian communities.

The Queensland Embroidery Arts Association (QEAA) was honoured to attend the opening ceremony of the Australia–China Cultural Heritage Immersion Week, held at Griffith University's Nathan Campus.

The event brought together distinguished guests from Australia and China, including representatives from the education, cultural, heritage, and arts sectors, to celebrate the beginning of a unique cultural initiative dedicated to fostering cross-cultural understanding and heritage appreciation.

Through cultural showcases, artistic exchanges, and the sharing of intangible cultural heritage, the Immersion Week provides a valuable platform for dialogue and collaboration between the two countries. QEAA is proud to support initiatives that promote cultural exchange, preserve traditional embroidery as an important form of intangible cultural heritage, and strengthen connections between diverse communities through the universal language of art.

At the beginning of May, we journeyed to New South Wales in pursuit of autumn’s fleeting beauty. Amid the vibrant hues of maple leaves and the grandeur of nature’s landscapes, we immersed ourselves in the changing season. Wandering through picturesque countryside and hand-picking fresh apples from local orchards, we found inspiration in the colours, textures, and rhythms of the natural world—moments that continue to influence and enrich our artistic expression.
